Does Your Kid Have a Winter Birthday? Here are 7 Fun Party Games to Play

Kids with winter birthdays can get the short end of the stick when it comes to planning a birthday party. 

They have to battle holidays, cold weather, and cold and flu’s (and Covid) worst season of the year. 

I know because I have a son with a winter birthday. 

So how do you plan a winter birthday that is fun for your kid and your guests? 

Sure, you can splurge on an indoor activity like a bounce or jumping place, but in today’s blog I have 7 fun party games you can play in the comfort of your own home. 

And since it is the year of the 2022 Winter Olympics, turn your kids' birthday party into the Winter Olympics. 

*Have a torch lighting ceremony for added fun*

They are cheap and easy to set up while still leaving your kids and his friends in a fit of giggles.

# 1 Snowblower Race
Can you get the snow out of the way before the other team does?

Items Needed: 

• Four plastic cups (I used ones with a snowman face)
• Tape
• Cotton Balls 
• Two empty toilet paper or paper towel rolls
• Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals

How to Play:

• Using tape, divide a long table in half, so there are two even sides.
• Tape four plastic cups to the edge of a table (two on each side). The rim of the cup should be parallel to the edge of the table. 
• Divide your guests into two even numbered groups.
• Half of the team will stand on one side and half will stand on the other side. 
• Give each player a cotton ball. 
• The first player of each team will get an empty toilet paper roll and cotton ball. 
• The first player has to blow the cotton ball into the cup on the other side without touching the cotton ball or dropping it. If they drop it, they have to go back to the start. 
• Once the cotton ball successfully gets into the cup, the next player will go. 
• The game ends when the first team gets all their cotton balls into the cups.

# 2 Snowball Pong
Can you get the snowball into the cup? This game is played like beer pong but hopefully your kids don’t know what that is. Lol

Items Needed: 

• Twelve plastic cups (I used ones with a snowman face)
• Cotton Balls 
• Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals

How to Play:

• Set up the cups in a 3-2-1 pyramid on each side of the table. 
• Divide the kids into teams of two. 
• Teams will take turns tossing the cotton balls into the cups. 
• Once a cotton ball successfully lands into a cup, that cup is taken away. 
• The game ends when one team gets rid of all the cups. 
• Play this game bracket style. The last remaining team is the overall winner. ​

# 3 Ice-skating Relay
Can you ice skate across the room without dropping the snowball on the spoon? 

Items Needed: 

• Plastic spoons
• Cotton Balls 
• Plastic bags
• Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals

How to Play:

• Divide the kids into teams of two. 
• Each person will put two plastic bags over their feet. Double knot the bags, so they stay on.
• The first player on each team will “ice skate” across the room and back while balancing a cotton ball on a spoon. 
• If the player drops the ball, he/she has to go back to the start. 
• The first player will then pass the spoon with the cotton ball to the next person.
• The game ends when one team has all of its players cross the finish line. ​

# 4 Snowball Fight
Can you knock over all the bowling ball pins? 

Items Needed: 

• Fake snowballs
• Plastic bowling ball pins​

How to Play:

• Divide the kids into teams of two. 
• Divide the room into half. 
• Put all the snowballs into the center.
• At the start, kids will run to gather the snowballs. 
• Kids will try to knock the other team’s pins down while blocking their own pins from getting knocked down. 
• The game ends when one team has knocked down all of the other team’s pins.

# 5 Melt the Ice
Be the first team to melt all of their ice and dump it in a bucket. 

Items Needed: 

• 2 buckets full of ice
• Plastic cups
• 2 empty buckets
• Picks, shovels, or utensils ​

How to Play:

• Divide the kids into teams of two. 
• Line up each team in a row. 
• The first players on each team stand next to buckets of ice. 
• On the start of go, the players near the ice bucket try to melt the ice as fast as they can.
• Meanwhile, the second player is scooping ice or melted water into his cup and passing it down the line until it gets to the last player. 
• The last player is also trying to melt the ice being poured into her bucket. 
• The first team to fill up their empty bucket with water to a predetermined line wins the game. ​

# 6 Pin the Carrot on the Snowman
See who can pin the carrot closest to where the carrot goes on the snowman.

Items Needed: 

• Pin the carrot on the snowman set
• Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals

How to Play:

• Put a blindfold on each kid. ​
  
• Spin them three times. 
  
• Have them try to guess where the carrot goes on a snowman. 
  
• The closest to the actual spot wins!
  

# 7 Stairway Luge
Be the fastest in the luge competition.

Items Needed: 

• A stairway (one with carpet for safety)
• Sleeping bag
• Helmet
• Pillows
• Stopwatch
• Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals

How to Play:

• Have each kid enter a sleeping bag at the top of the steps. 
• Put a helmet on the kid and surround the bottom of the staircase with pillows to ensure safety. 
• Each kid will travel down the stairway in a sleeping bag. 
• Time each kid. 
• The fastest kid to reach the bottom is the winner.
